Commis Chef Jobs description
A commis chef works under a head chef and prepares dishes according to his or her direction. The commis chef has to ensure that his or her food preparations conform to high quality standards. He or she also has to store and preserve food at varying temperatures.Commis chefs assist head chefs with stocking food products and must possess the cooking skills to prepare a high number of dishes. Commis chefs also have to train new cooks on the preparation of various dishes under the supervision of the head chef. A commis chef may serve as a chef de partie and be responsible for the smooth functioning of a catering department at parties and other social functions.
The commis chef primarily must be able to prepare a variety of dishes in an efficient manner. A high school diploma along with an apprenticeship as a chef in a food establishment are the minimal requirements for becoming a commis chef.
