Notes:
These positions work full-time mid-September through mid-June. During the summer months, these positions may be offered hourly work up to 35 hours/week. The full-time work schedule will occur over five consecutive days in a given week and may include mornings, nights and weekends.

UW Dining
is comprised of a dedicated group of culinary professionals committed to creating a quality, consistent, customer-driven experience. We serve a diverse population including faculty, staff and students in several different venues across campus.

UW Dining currently has openings for Line Cooks
in a variety of UW Dining venues. We are seeking candidates that possess culinary experience, have a strong work ethic and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment. Successful candidates will have an enthusiastic, food-centric attitude and will possess the ability to able to collaborate to provide a quality product and experience to our customers.

Note: This position is a Candidate Bank. This posting will be open through the end of December and will be used to fill multiple positions that will start during winter quarter. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide leadership in a high-volume UW dining facility that offers a wide variety of cuisines and serves a large number of repeat customers.
• Work as part of a diverse team in an energetic, fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Apply your broad culinary background, including recent active restaurant experience in a fast-paced environment, to deliver a quality customer service experience.
• Use your skills to effectively communicate and lead the team to produce consistently-excellent product to our standards while demonstrating proper food handling guidelines.

Requirements:
Possession of, or eligible for, a food handler's permit. Must possess a Food Worker permit within two weeks of employment. Obtain your Food handler’s permit online!
• One year of experience in cooking and serving food; or one year as Food Service Worker, or equivalent. Vocational or technical training may substitute for experience.

Specific Position Requirements
• Ability to smell and taste foods and beverages and discern ingredients.
• Ability to read, speak, write and follow written instructions in English.
• Ability to explain culinary and cooking techniques to entry level staff will little knowledge of food service.
• Ability to communicate orally with customers.
• Ability to perform repetitive arm, hand and wrist motions on a frequent basis.
• Ability to reach continuously at waist level, occasionally above waist and shoulder level.
• Ability to perform fine manipulations such as keyboarding frequently.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds frequently.
• Ability to push and pull with 30 pounds of force occasionally.
• Ability to stand up to 90 minutes at a time for up to 7.5 hours a day, varying stance and postures.
• Ability to work in a confined space such as a store room or walk-in refrigerator/freezer.
• Ability to work in a warm and humid environment.
• Ability to work with continual interaction with a diverse group of people up to 7.5 hours a day.
• Ability to maintain attendance and punctuality based on a work schedule where hours of work may vary based on business needs.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Desired:
• Experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Condition of Employment:
Though hired into a specific working title or location, all employees of Housing & Food Services are expected to support overall operations by: participating in cross-training, providing coverage during staff absences or high business volume, participating in production and/or service of special events, and being willing and able to perform additional, related duties and/or be reassigned to another work unit.

A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification may be required prior to hire.
